A 5-figure compensation payout has been awarded to the parents of a boy who coughed up a six-inch PVC breathing tube that doctors employed by Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust failed to remove.
During the birth of Owen Thomas in February 2007, one of his shoulders became stuck (this is known as shoulder dystocia) meaning doctors needed to insert an endotracheal tube to enable him to breathe.
Doctors should have removed the tube once he was able to breathe naturally, but failed to do so
