There are four ways in which traditional portable air conditioners are inefficient.
First up, the exhaust duct requires a large hole to go through.
Number 2, the exhaust hose will radiate heat back into the room.
Third, air will be pulled in through any gaps in the room because it creates negative air pressure.
Lastly you can usually only duct a few metres before the machines start losing efficiency.
All of these except number 3 are fairly easy to understand, the third I will explain.
